My Marshmallow Moment
My Lego Robotics class is a lot of fun, but is also a challenge for me. What it calls for is a lot of time management and logistics. I'm more of a "just do it" and build kind of person, but with Lego Robotics, it challenges me to work with the lack of time the lack of kits avaialbe and technical issues to optimize working teams.

Teaching the kids and developing lessons at appropriate levels comes quite naturally. My biggest challenge always centers around grading, and what administration truly thinks, wants, etc. Also, parents contact me quite often (at both high schools) requesting 1:1 tutoring, and the marshmallow is managing these requests and saying No upon occasion (that's it's ok to say No).

Integrating Cultural projects into curriculum
-time management
-how to integrate into a grammar curriculum
-not taking away time from grammar that I need to teach
-feels like too much of a "break" from the rest
-making a clear rubric ahead of time
SSH Fishman Marshmallow
HI, Ramsey,
With the rush of new technology (partially supported), one big "marshmallow" concern I have for the upcoming year (from the one I just finished) is that, despite the incredible potential for more effective and efficient individualized student-teacher communication about writing skills and performance, there have been all kinds of problems actually making the communication work. It was a year of starts and stumbles (broken vermicelli, fallen marshmallow). Where their work ended up, how they got the feedback I'd offered: so many foul-ups.

I struggle with some teachers over what my role (as EIC) is in their teaching. There are still some who want me to come in and teach the entire lesson, curriculum content and the technology piece. I'm finding it difficult to model this effectively with these few teachers. I have planning meetings with them and have other teachers share best practices. This doesn't seem to be enough.

Mousetrap race car design time and follow through. Each year, kids do a fair job on this project, and 2 of the 6 years they have done very well.

I struggle teaching Copyright and Fair Use in that students (kids and faculty) find it relevant and useful.

Grammar... every year it seems harder. How can a verb be so hard to find? I want them to understand and use grammar correctly in writing, but I often have split classes. Kids who get it, and kids who literally cannot identify a verb. I haven't had a class that got as far as infinitives, participles and gerunds in about five years. I blame texting.

In AP Euro, there's so much to cover, and I feel like my students often don't really understand the English civil war.
